Cavity Filling

Decay(cavity) on milk teeth should not be ignored and treated before the need for a root canal treatment arises. For children, generally Resin Modified Glass Inomer Cement with Fluoride release(tooth coloured) is used for the back teeth and Composite resins(tooth coloured)for the front teeth.
In case of badly mutilated teeth preformed Stainless steel crowns are given

Root Canal Treatment

In children when tooth decay is not treated in time, it gets deeper and the infection reaches the nerve. Sometimes the tooth may be asymptomatic initially. Eventually he may have episodes of severe pain and swelling. Once the cavity affects the nerve it needs to be saved by a ROOT CANAL TREATMENT or will have to be extracted. Since milk teeth, especially the back ones function in the mouth almost till the age of 9-12 years, they should be saved by Root Canal Treatment. Sometimes the infection is severe and the condition of the tooth really bad, we then need to extract it and place a space maintainer.

Space Maintainers

What are space maintainers, and are they really necessary ?

Space maintainers are designed to maintain the open space left behind by the premature loss of a baby tooth, so that the adult tooth will be able to erupt into that space properly. These devices can have an artificial tooth to fill in the space in more aesthetic areas. Not every tooth that is lost requires a space maintainer. Your dentist will periodically take an x-ray to follow the growth progress of the adult tooth. When it is ready to erupt the space maintainer will then be removed.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride Varnish/Gel : Fluoride is a mineral that helps prevent tooth decay by strengthening the tooth enamel and making it more resistant to acids and harmful bacteria.

Pit And Fissure Sealant

The chewing surfaces of the back teeth have many pits and grooves which can trap food debris and cause cavities. Sealants are a plastic resin that flows into these grooves of the tooth , get hardened to form a more shallow and a smooth surface from which the food debris can be easily washed away.
